My favourite text editor Vim turns 21 in a couple of months. This amazing software has travelled with my fingers from the first OS I ever worked on (UNIX) to my present primary OS - Windows 7.
I can think of no other software (other than UNIX itself) that has done that. Here's an excellent article by Ryan Paul on Two decades of productivity with Vim.
